Mission Statement

The Sister of St. Joseph of Tipton, Indiana
nurturing a personal relationship with God,
with others, and with the Earth
is a reconciling presence in the world.

We, Sisters of St. Joseph of Tipton, Indiana, are an apostolic Community of Christians, vowed religious women, joyfully embracing the gift of the Associates. Responsive to our call to discipleship, empowered by our loving relationship with God and neighbor, we strive to live and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus to be signs of His love.

Our founder, Father Jean Pierre Medaille, S. J. (1650) gave us St. Joseph as our model and led our first Sisters to compassionate and humble service to the poor and powerless. Reflecting their spirit and the courage of our Tipton foundress, Mother Gertrude Moffitt (1888), we minister to God's People especially the poor, powerless, and families in distress.

Called to be one with the poor, we will simplify our life style, offer hospitality and bolster hope, work, and call others to work to create environments that promote growth in the spirit of Christ Jesus; become more global in awareness while acting locally to improve specific situations; challenge systems that oppress, dehumanize, exploit, risking resources
to oppose them.

Striving to be open and receptive to the Spirit of Love, we move on,
move on, confidently!
