The 100 Maxims of the Little Institute were first published in 1657 by Father Jean Pierre Medaille, SP, founder of “the congregation of the great love of God” . . . the Sisters of St. Joseph.  Father Medaille stated in his preface to the Maxims, “We are all asked to “live the gospel and read the Maxims attentively, meditate upon them frequently; I hope Divine Goodness will enlighten you, let you know in what great virtue consists and help you to practice it.”
